Wise Business is a multi-currency account for freelancers, sole traders and companies that get paid or pay suppliers in more than one currency. It is built on the same platform as the personal Wise account: you hold 40+ currencies, receive money with local account details and send money at the mid-market exchange rate with a small, upfront fee. There is no monthly fee.

What you get

  • Account details in 22 currencies — give clients local details (for example EUR, GBP or USD) so they pay you as a domestic transfer instead of an expensive international one.
  • Payments abroad at the mid-market rate — the fee is shown before you pay, with no mark-up hidden in the exchange rate.
  • Batch payments — pay up to 1,000 suppliers, freelancers or employees from one CSV or Excel file.
  • Team access — invite colleagues with their own permissions (view only, make payments, order cards, manage the team) and require approvals for payments.
  • Cards for the team — physical and digital Wise Business debit cards that spend from your balances.
  • Accounting integrations — bills and bank feeds with Xero and QuickBooks; bank feeds with FreeAgent, Sage, NetSuite, DATEV, Exact Online, Pennylane, sevDesk, Zoho, Wave and others (availability varies by country).
  • Getting paid — payment links, QR codes, invoices and direct debits are unlocked with the one-off fee.
  • API — free sandbox and live API access for automating payments.

Who can open a Wise Business account?

Sole traders and freelancers, limited and public companies and most partnerships can apply. You need a registered business address and a business tax identification number, and each legal entity needs its own account. When you enter your details, Wise tells you whether it supports businesses in your country.

Wise does not support:

  • businesses involved in gambling, anywhere in the world
  • businesses that exchange or trade cryptocurrencies
  • tobacco and adult-content businesses
  • companies with bearer shares, and (for new sign-ups) UK and EEA trusts and UK limited partnerships

Charities are only supported in certain countries, and unregistered charities not at all. Businesses in Bahrain, Israel and Malaysia cannot hold money in a Wise Business account.

Documents and verification

  • proof of business registration (certificate of incorporation or a registry extract)
  • proof of your trading address
  • details of who owns and controls the business
  • personal ID for the account owner and, if requested, for other directors or owners

After the initial review, further checks usually take up to 10 working days.

Good to know

  • Card payments from customers: accepting card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments is currently not available to new Wise Business customers.
  • Topping up e-wallets: paying into other e-wallets (such as Skrill or NETELLER) with a Wise card costs 2%.
  • Interest on balances: EUR, GBP and USD balances can be put into money-market funds (“Interest”) for an annual fee from 0.26%. This is an investment, not a savings account — capital is at risk.
  • How your money is protected: in the EEA the account is provided by Wise Europe SA, a payment institution supervised by the National Bank of Belgium; in the UK by Wise Payments Ltd, an e-money institution authorised by the FCA. Customer money is safeguarded, but it is not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
No monthly fee — one setup feeSetup fee differs by country (EUR 50–60 in the euro area)

Wise Business or an e-wallet?

Skrill and NETELLER are built for paying online merchants and moving money between e-wallets; NETELLER has currently paused new business account applications. If your business invoices clients abroad, pays international suppliers or needs local bank details in several currencies, Wise Business is the more suitable tool.
